The Roma Union in the Republic of Croatia “KALI SARA”, as the organizer of the upcoming Roma Women’s Conference, which will take place from November 25 to 28, 2025, in Zagreb, has launched a petition advocating important steps to improve the status of Roma women and the Roma community in Europe. They invite all citizens to support this initiative by adding their signature.
This petition, created as part of the Roma Women’s Conference (Zagreb, 2025), whose main goal is to advance the position of Roma women in Europe, supports the establishment of an office for a future international network of Roma women in Brussels, one of the administrative seats of the European Union. This would enable the network to directly advocate for the Conference’s goals at the highest European institutional level and to facilitate financial, organizational, and other support for the work of local, regional, and national Roma women’s and feminist organizations working to improve the status of Roma women, according to the organizers. The petition also supports the initiative to create a position within the European Commission, the EU’s main executive body, for a representative of the Roma community. This measure is considered extremely important, given that approximately 12 million Roma live in Europe but do not have their own state to automatically provide them with representation in European institutions. Therefore, in addition to representatives from all EU member states, we propose one additional seat for the Roma.
The petition can be signed here.
